(IAD) Internet Addiction Could become Chronic Disease.

Back in August we reported that reSTART, a rehab center for Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), was the first facility of its kind to treat the controversial diagnosis in the US.

The disorder has yet to be officially recognized, but specific symptoms have been outlined, and it’s a subject matter that continues to undergo evaluation.

Now, new research from the Kaohslung Medical University Hospital in Taiwan shows a correlation in young teens between internet addiction and other psychological disorders. According to CNN and the research report, “ADHD and hostility were linked to Internet addiction in children,” while social phobia and depression were linked to internet addiction in girls.

  1. Awesome blog!

I thought about starting my own blog too but I’m just too lazy so, I guess I’ll just have to keep checking yours out.
    LOL.

  2. My s/o is internet addicted. He asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told him a day with no tv and no p/c. He did not grant my birthday wish. He wakes up, eats, showers, gets on his p/c and stays on it until he goes to sleep… what can I do?

  3. Hello! I understand completely. I used to be on the internet ALL THE TIME too. I suggest that you try to get him involved in other activities. Does he like any sports? Maybe have a night where you would play board games together. I know that might sound cheesy, but it just might work.

  4. Well, I tried that. I got him to play scrabble with me. I got sleepy and wanted to go to sleep, and he came back out to get on the p/c until 7am.
I love him so much, but he is losing touch with reality so fast.
It was so different until he hurt his back 2 years ago.
How did you stop being on the net all the time? Please help.

  5. I stopped by setting limits for myself. I would tell myself that I could use the Internet only 2 1/2 hours a day. If you’d like, you could tell the computer(under parental settings) to only allow the Internet to be accessed at certain times, on certain days, or for how long each day.

    Hope this Helps!

  6. What did it take for you to realize you had a problem with internet addiction? Should I do an intervention?
